Some highly charged sexual content should not put off fans of riveting historical fiction with strong romantic elements and a touch of alchemy.

Meanwhile, a "carrier" is on the loose, infecting its victims with a bacterium that turns them into brain-eating zombies. The Coalition wants Pitt to find and destroy the carrier, since the carnage the zombies are causing brings unwanted attention to the undead community. Huston has fun playing with the conventions of the genre, creating his own hip update that will appeal to fans of Quentin Tarantino and Buffy the Vampire Slayer alike. [PW]

The authors have mixed up a cocktail of exotic elements -- the sex for pay industry, the grind and glitz of Hollywood and the rap biz, a smart leavening of black film history -- and topped it with a double shot of brutal murder. Handsome Ten Hardwick has not only a great backstory but a very promising future. [PW]

Though too much relies on Jensen's failure to tell Genevieve about her client's true motives, and Genevieve herself is an inadequate match for the steely agent, the chemistry between them crackles. Stuart courts controversy with Jensen's lack of emotion and total body control, allowing him to use sex as a tool for disarming both women and men; her hero's sexual flexibility is bound to turn off some readers, just as it's bound to entice others. Those who take the plunge shouldn't be disappointed: Stuart knows how to take chances, and this edgy thriller shows how well they can pay off. [PW]
