FAQ: Help and How-To

Question: Can I read these ebooks on my Kindle?
Answer: Yes! The unecrypted PRC (Mobipocket) file is readable in Amazon's Kindle. Thanks to AAR's Vicky, and as further explained in this topic thread, the how-to-do-it is: "I am sure there are some of you who are a little hesitant to download books from sites other than Amazon (as I have been) so I want to share the answer to the question I posed in my previous post. [...] I contacted Kindle support and they immediately called me and solved the problem. I needed to actually drag the book INTO the documents file within the Drive F (Kindle) file."

Question: How do I download the files?
Answer: When you click on the download links provided on the download page or in the email you're sent, your computer will prompt you to save the file or open it. Save all files to your hard drive. You can also save a .PDF file to your hard drive after first opening it in Adobe Reader.

Question: Which format should I download?
Answer: You should download the LIT format for Microsoft Reader, PDF for Adobe Reader, PDB for eReader (formerly Palm Reader), and PRC for Mobipocket Reader and Amazon's Kindle. Some e-readers will import other file formats, such as Adobe PDF. Please refer to the help file of your e-reader device or software for details.

Question: I don't have a PayPal account. Can I still buy an ebook?
Answer: Yes. PayPal no longer requires people to register in order to use their services. They accept most major credit cards and EChecks in addition to payment by PayPal.

Question: Are these books available in paperback?
Answer: You can still find original copies of the books at used bookstores, but at this time I'm only selling digital versions of the books. Print-on-demand technology is still too costly for me to justify selling paperback copies.

Question: What happens if there's something wrong with the file I downloaded? Can I get my money back or get a replacement?
Answer: If there's anything wrong with the file, or if the download link doesn't work, please contact me. I can email a replacement copy. Also, I've tried to catch typos, but if I've missed any, please let me know where they are so I can correct the mistakes and send you a new copy (free of charge of course!)

Question: Can I get a refund or a new download link if I buy the wrong format?
Answer: All sales are final, but mistakes happen! I can email a replacement file if you contact me and let me know what happened.

Question: What happens if my computer crashes and I lose the ebook(s) I bought?
Answer: Email me your PayPal receipt and InkBooks email receipt — or the email you used to buy the book if you didn't save either of these receipts — and I'll send you a replacement copy.

Question: I get an error message when I try to check out. Why?
Answer: The Opera browser apparently doesn't work with the shopping cart software. If you have Internet Explorer or Firefox, please try again with that browser. Otherwise, please contact me.

Mar 02, 2010: Recently, a few people have had problems with the cart software giving them an INVALID error messsage after making the transaction, which leads to a duplicate charge. Although it appears the transaction has failed, it has most likely gone through. To prevent a duplicate charge, please check your email for the download link before making a second attempt to purchase a book. You should be sent a download email soon after the transaction, so you'll know within a few minutes whether or not the transaction really did fail. If you're having trouble with the PayPal checkout, or if you accidentally duplicate a purchase, please contact me. I can issue refunds for double payments or find alternate ways to get an ebook to you if PayPal refuses to work for you or you live in a country where access to PayPal is restricted.
